- What is the Vehicle Recalls by YMM API?
- The Recalls by YMM API lets you retrieve safety recall data for any vehicle by providing its YMM — no VIN required. It returns recall counts, affected components, summaries, consequences, and remedies in a structured JSON response.
- How does this differ from the VIN-based Recalls API?
- The VIN-based Recalls API targets a single, specific vehicle using its 17-character VIN. The YMM API looks up recalls for an entire YMM combination — useful when you don't have individual VINs or want to check an entire model line at once.
- Where does the recall data come from?
- CarsXE aggregates safety recall data from authoritative government databases, normalizes it into structured JSON, and serves it through a cached, high-availability API — so you don't have to build or maintain the integration yourself.
- What parameters are required?
- Three parameters are required: year (4-digit model year), make (manufacturer name, e.g. Toyota), and model (model name, e.g. Camry). Your CarsXE API key is also required.
- What does has_recalls mean?
- has_recalls is a boolean that indicates whether there are any open or historical recalls on file for the given YMM. It is true when recall_count is greater than zero.
- How frequently is recall data updated?
- CarsXE fetches fresh data for each unique YMM combination and caches responses automatically. New recalls are reflected shortly after being issued.
- What SDKs and languages are supported?
- CarsXE provides official SDKs for JavaScript, Python, PHP, Ruby, and Go. You can also call the REST API directly from any language that supports HTTP GET requests.
